From the place where the Olympics were born, to the whole world! The lighting of the flame 2016.

The Ancient Greeks considered fire to be a divine element, and they maintained perpetual
fires in front of their principal temples. This was the case in the sanctuary of Olympia, where the
Ancient Olympic Games took place. The flame was lit using the rays of the sun, to ensure its
purity, and a skaphia, the ancestor of the parabolic mirror used today for lighting the
Olympic flame. A flame burned permanently on the altar of the goddess Hestia, and such fires
were also lit on the altars of Zeus and Hera, in front of whose temple the Olympic flame is lit
today.

In the context of the modern Games, the Olympic flame represents the positive values
that Man has always associated with fire. The purity of the flame is guaranteed by the way it is
lit using the sun‟s rays. The choice of Olympia as a departure point emphasises the link
between the Ancient and Modern Games and underlines the profound connection between
these two events. (source:http://www.olympic.org/)

It was erected in 1813 by Charles Philip De Bosset and bears his name, it is the longest stone arched bridge (approximately 900 meters long) and well preserved bridge in Europe. Dafnoudi Beach

A charming video from the recent visit of a good friend and lover of Fiskardo, featuring Dafnoudi beach in Antypata of Erissos.

Dafnoudi is a well hidden natural bay as many around the coastline  of northern Kefalonia. Just park you car at the side of the road, where the sign Dafnoudi shows you the way of a 600meters walking path among lush vegetation down to the beach. The white pebbles and crystal clear deep blue waters contrast with the deep green from the cypress and pine trees around, the waters are always calm and the beach is never crowdy. Dafnudi is also a seals refuge :)

Blooming & Blossoming- an everyday updated post :)

Kefalonia is beautiful all year around but particularly in spring nature is at its best. I love colors and flowers, so I take a shot and post the image everytime I come across these little colorful treasures. From trees to wild flowers, everything is born again. Never ends- never boring ;)

Melissani

Melissani Cave is located close to Karavomilos, next to Sami. It is a cave of unique beauty 3.5 km long, 40m wide and 36m high. Melissani cave is a unique geological phenomenon. It was created by the process called karstikopoiisi (dissolution of rocks) during which water enters the calcareous rocks, erodes them and creates hollows.
The underground Melissani lake was discovered in 1951 by speleontologist Giannis Petrochilos. A big part of its roof has fallen down revealing an amazing sight. During antiquity the lake was a place of worship dedicated to Pan and Nymph Melissani. The myth has it that Nymph Melissani committed suicide and fell in the lake because Pan was not responding to her love for him.

The lake includes also an islet on which archeologist S. Marinatos discovered Pan's sanctuary. The findings are at present in the Archeological Museum of Argostoli. These findings include a clay figure of Pan, a clay disc depicting dancing nymphs, a clay plate depicting the procession of nymphs and a small plate with a woman figure relief.
Visitors reach the lake by an underground tunnel and have the opportunity to explore it with a boat and a guide. Therefore, they can admire this unique natural work of sculpture created by the stalactites and the crystal blue-green color of the waters.

The canadian travel site http://travelversed.co/ has voted Melissani among the 19 most breathtaking view on Earth!
